O homem se olha no espelho tranquilamente e uma m\u00e3o surge do meio da escurid\u00e3o (\u00e9 quando Mario Bava, de O Chicote e o Corpo, agradece). O espelho se inclina para baixo onde vemos apenas uma das m\u00e3os do homem, enquanto que em primeiro plano um punhal se ergue e desaba rapidamente. A m\u00e3o no espelho reluta por um instante e, enfim, desaparece. A outra m\u00e3o se levante e apaga a vela sobre a penteadeira. Mais uma vez Mann revela ocultando, abre a cena n\u00e3o pela a\u00e7\u00e3o de frente, mas pelas sombras na parede do fundo. \u00c0 esquerda a figura de um homem esmagando algo\/algu\u00e9m, \u00e0 direita a sombra de Robespierre vai crescendo conforme o tom de amea\u00e7a do di\u00e1logo aumenta at\u00e9 se tornar completamente opressiva no pen\u00faltimo quadro.
